General Info

If you’re exploring Korean food in Los Angeles, Gamja Bawi Korean Restaurant is one of those spots that quietly earns loyal fans. Tucked along South Western Avenue, this Korean restaurant delivers a comforting, no-frills dining experience that feels both authentic and approachable. From the moment you step in, the atmosphere leans casual yet efficient, making it perfect whether you’re planning a quick bite or settling in for a more relaxed meal.

One of the standout moments here is diving into the Gamja-Tang, a hearty pork bone soup that’s rich, warming, and deeply satisfying. It’s the kind of dish that immediately sets the tone for the rest of the menu-bold, traditional, and full of character. If you’re in the mood for something sizzling, the Kimchee Dolsoat Bebeembab arrives in a hot stone bowl, crackling gently as the rice crisps at the bottom. The balance of kimchi, rice, and toppings creates a layered flavor that keeps each bite interesting.

For something a bit different, the Squid & Vegitable Steamed Rice offers a lighter yet still flavorful option, with tender seafood and well-seasoned rice coming together seamlessly. Alongside these mains, the classic Rice and Side Dishes spread adds variety to the table, bringing that familiar Korean dining experience where every small dish complements the next. It’s this thoughtful combination that makes the overall meal feel complete rather than rushed.

Service-wise, the restaurant keeps things practical and welcoming. With reliable onsite services and the option to accept reservations, it’s easy to plan your visit, especially during busier hours. The space is also designed to be inclusive, offering wheelchair accessible seating and a wheelchair accessible restroom, which adds to the overall convenience. Whether you’re stopping by solo or with friends, the setup works smoothly.

In terms of location, being situated in Los Angeles makes it a convenient pick for locals and visitors alike who are browsing reviews or searching for a dependable Korean restaurant nearby. The menu is straightforward yet satisfying, focusing on dishes that highlight traditional flavors without overcomplication.

All in all, Gamja Bawi Korean Restaurant delivers a grounded, enjoyable dining experience-one where comforting dishes, practical services, and a relaxed vibe come together naturally.

What customers say?

“ Don't really understand the negative reviews.. it's not pricey when compared to other restaurants in ktown and the quality of food is the same. I got the goat soup and the meat was tender, the soup base was flavorful, and the price reasonable! ”

- Kevin Kou -

“ Located inside the Koreatown Plaza food court and often a queue during busy hours. The fish stew was pretty good with good amount of fish. $18. ”

- Harry Zheng -

“ The Bibimbap is so good. Not much meat at all (ONE OUNCE) but the meal includes soup and kimchee. ”

- Steve Yue -

“ This place had AMAZING Dolsot Bibimbap. The portion sizes are MASSIVE, the food came out hot and fresh. The only thing is, it took a while to come out but I think that’s because they make it on the spot and the taste was definitely worth the wait. It’s a place in the koreatown plaza mall, and I’d say the koreatown plaza food court is a pretty good court court compared to other food courts in ktown. I would probably share a dish with someone else if you’re getting gamja bawi because I wasn’t able to finish everything. But it definitely tasted authentic and it was just super flavorful. A bit in the pricier side though but since portions are big it makes sense. ”

- Grace Wong -

“ Great place to eat authentic Korean food. Located in the food court on the ground floor of the shopping center opposite the entrance to H Mart ”

- Anton Bulgakov -

“ Got a recommendation on Reddit to try the dolsot bibimbap at Koreatown Plaza and couldn't be happier that I did. They serve a fantastic bowl of bibimbap and is probably the best I’ve ever had. Very hot with crispy rice clinging to the sides of the stone bowl. Will be back soon! ”

- Jane Liu -

“ Ok, I’ll say it: the 은대구 조림 (#4, blackcod stew) here is the best I’ve had, and yes, I’ve been to Soban. ”

- George C -

“ Very delicious for the price perfect place for a warm soup ”
